ஒரு நட்பின் கதை

Vishal is my college friend. I completed my schooling in 2007 and joined a college in Chennai. First day I sat in the fourth row, my bench mate was talking in English the whole day and the next day I went and sat on the last bench. The person in the last row was Vishal, he talked in Tamil. I was short-tempered person from a village called Thalampallam (still you can't find it in google maps). I pursued my schooling in Tamil medium government schools and Vishal was an outstanding brilliant CBSE student who just missed IIT due to bad luck. Whatever we did just ended up in failure always, but our thoughts match everywhere and in everything, this is the starting of our friendship. I never had a feeling that I was far apart from my home, as I was always in his home. Together we did many projects, faced many failures, insults and revenges but always we were there for each other. We were always crazy about riding. Always we will be roaming, tea for us and petrol for Bike. This is the simple story about us, and behind this words.

My SADDLESORE 2000K (2000+ KM in less than 24 hrs)

My Destrier 2062KM in less than 24 hours

It was the right time for me to push my limits to complete the goal of Saddlesore 2000K and Bun Burner 2600K in a single attempt, the next big thing in IBA. I started planning the route and checked the maps by riding through Pune roads, but the heavy construction work hindered the plan. So, I stuck to the plan of executing the Kanyakumari-Salem-Bangalore-Anantapur-Hyderabad-Bangalore-Salem which is 2012 km in 24 hours as per the maps.

I had given my Black Yamaha R15 for service and ensured proper condition on 17.05.13.  I had the right mindset to execute this target and was well equipped with spare engine oil, tool kits , fruits and energy bars . Like my previous Saddle-Sore ride of 1600K, this time also I rode my bike towards Kanyakumari the day before to the starting point. I started from home at 7:30 pm, booked room at 4:00 am in Kanyakumari and took 6 hours sleep. The day arrived and I had to purchase lemons, dates, apples, chocolate and ORS Lemon juice for the endurance ride. Four witnesses were waiting to raise the flag at the southernmost tip of India for my attempt. I had to start with the usual formalities and IBA Documentation, as it is very crucial part of the ride. So, at 6:30 PM, 18.05.13 Saturday I took bill at Union Bank of India (UBI) ATM. This time I had ensured to record my ride in the GPS and mark waypoints if time permits. So at 6:35 PM the GPS was reset to record the distance, moving time and stopped time. At 6:50 PM the Bike was fully fueled at Indian oil outlet and I got the handwritten bill at 6:50 as there was power cut and they couldn’t provide the electronic one.

Soon I picked suddenly and raised my roaring Destrier in its own style towards Madurai to reach next fuel point. I was brimming with energy and with the same vigor I reached Vadipatti. I took some pictures, documented as quick as possible and started towards next point. I reached Athanur junction,  I took 25 minutes rest after taking tea and juice. I could feel my heart pounding with energy to continue my ride again. I arrived at Bharat Petroleum Thoppur Outlet in Dharmapuri at 12:24 AM. After filling fuel and taking few snaps, I continued my ride towards Bangalore via NECE Road Entry (Hosur-Tumkur). I reached Bangalore at 2:00AM and passed the city in search of Petrol BunkMy next target was Ananthpur . It was outlandish as I faced Zero Traffic Roads, Poor Headlight and Invisible Stretches. I couldn’t reach top speed like the glorious start I had and I was feeling sleepy as well.

At 5:30 AM The rising sun made the roads visible, slowly sleepiness gone away. My eyes opened up fully and I passed Anantapur, reached Gooty at 6:00 AM. Soon I checked the GPS and it was showing 940 Km. I was taking tea at a nearby shop and the quote that was printed on the arch at starting point came into my mind. “ARISE, AWAKE AND STOP NOT TILL THE GOAL IS REACHED”- a famous quote from Swami VivekanandaI still had to cover nearly 1100 km in 12.5 hours. I was looking at my Black Destrier and asked how? It roared on me and said why are you still taking tea? I have a plan,………………………. ATTACK.

The rising sun and clear skies at dawn gave me the confidence to kick the miles. My Destrier reached upto 146 km/hr at Odo and GPS Clocked 137 km Max Speed. I quickly reached Hyderabad at 9:00 AM, completed the documentation and taken an apple for quick boost and started at 9:30 AM.

It was extremely good speed and reached Dhone before Noon. The Bike was 100 percent tempting me to ride more and more. But the Scorching sun and soaring temperatures was dragging me. My butt started to burn in the seat. I had no idea to slow down, reached near Bangalore and fueled my bike. I entered Bangalore and the traffic density was soaring. My mind, eyes and bike was glowing with confidence and fear as all my efforts would go in vain if I could not complete the next 250 km in 3 hours. I was passing the traffic at 3:30 pm and entered NECE Road.

Then I entered into Tamil Nadu passing Hosur- the heavy traffic zone at 4:30 Pm. I called my friend Vishal ,who is waiting for my arrival at Rasipuram and I told him that I had crossed Bangalore and entered our State. I have another 170 km to reach the milestone of 2000+ km in 24 hours. Bangalore to Salem Road is the most hectic route but my Destrier simply maintained at 130 km/hr and I reached the destination at 6:02 PM. I stopped my bike with a stoppie and asked the timeI got the reply as 6:00 PM, still you have 45 minutes . What are you waiting forSwiftly I fueled and collected the receipt and continued my ride as I had time left. I reached Paramathi where I found a fuel station with ATM. I took my GPS and it was showing 2062 km .My time was nearing to an end and it was a nightmare for me as I couldn’t find the reading for Latitude and Longitude in my GPS as the satellite reception was very poor. It was continuously searching for satellites. The petrol bunk station didn’t have electronic receipt. The ATM also let me down by displaying Unable to process, I got tensed since my witness Vishal and Vishali were waiting in Rasipuram . It had taken away 20 minutes of golden time
I prayed Lord Muruga and swiped my card for last attempt at 7:00 PM , magically it printed the receipt with the timestamp and I took some pictures with my Odometer Reading and GPS for complete and detailed documentation.
Quickly I started back to the finish point, and got the witness formalities done. They were raising the green flag towards me; I heard a voice YOU HAVE MADE IT!!!!

True souls behind my successful SS2000K
